An architect without a Degree?
Is it possible?
A professional architectural degree is expensive. In the US in 2023 it is estimated to cost between $13,000 a year to $40,000 a year.
A professional degree requires a 2-year MArch (after receiving a Bachelors), or a 5-year BArch Degree.
That's between $65,000 to $200,000 for a professional Architecture Degree.
Furthermore, once you graduate, the average salary is $60,000 a year (non-licensed) to $120,000 (licensed).
However, a Professional Degree does not a License make. There is still the required 3-year AXP experience requirement, before one can sit for the Architectural Registration Exams (AREs).
5 to 6 years of school and 3-years of AXP - 8 to 9 years of combined school and experience before Licensure.
However, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, and Wisconsin, all have registration programs that enable non-architectural degree holders to sit for the AREs with the right amount of experience.
